The Denver Outlaws hold of a Rochester Rattlers comeback to remain undefeated in the MLL.
Rochester’s (4-7) 4-0 run in the second half wasn’t enough to come back against Denver (11-0) as it fell 12-9 on Sunday. Dave Lawson managed a hat trick for the Rattlers, while three Outlaws managed a multi-goal game.
The Outlaws used a big first quarter run to get a big lead early. Following a John Ranagan score to give Rochester a 1-0 lead 3:22 in, Denver scored the next four goals, including a two-pointer by Jeremy Sieverts for 5-1 lead. Lawson scored is first of the game with a 1:28 left in the first, but Rochester still trailed 5-2.
The first couple minutes of the second quarter were all defense. Neither team scored for until Ned Crotty netted one nearly five minutes into the period. However, Denver responded with two straight to open up a 7-3 lead. Rochester came back with two straight tallies to cut the deficit to 7-5 at the half.
The Outlaws came out firing in the second half. Chris Bocklet, Justin Pennington and Justin Turri scored back-to-back-to-back to give Denver its largest advantage at 10-5.
That’s when Rochester came back, though. Over a stretch of ten minutes between the third and fourth quarter, the Rattlers cut the lead to one at 10-9. However, they wouldn’t get closer as the Outlaws finished the game on a 2-0 run and won 12-9/
Both teams are back in action on Saturday. Rochester is at New York, while Denver hosts Chesapeake.
